Are you worried about asking your favourite friend to go to the prom with you? Do you think (s)he will say no and then you feel rejected? Do you feel completely paralysed in the ability to ask anyone to take you to the prom?

If you have fears surrounding your prom, believe me, you're not alone. All teenagers struggle with this. Girls tend to put more effort and attention to finding the perfect prom date with the most handsome guy for themselves. Usually, this turmoil starts early with some girls. For some, by the time February rolls around, they are already searching for that perfect prom date.

Some girls know intuitively how to get the prom date of their dreams. They know exactly what to say or do to win that perfect guy or girl. Sadly, most girls and boys really have a difficult time knowing exactly how to confidently get a prom date. Below, I offer five tips on how to ease the burden.

1. Don't plan to approach only one person. Half expect that the perfect guy or girl may not want to go to the prom with you. So, plan on expanding your horizons beyond who you really, really want to go to the prom with. And, who knows? Maybe the date that you thought would be perfect wouldn't be anyway.

2. Ask the girl or guy that you want to go to the prom with early on. If (s)he says no, you won't be as devastated because you will have a lot of time to find someone else who will enjoy and be honoured to take you. So, don't fret, just move on.

3. Don't do the hero worship thing. No one is so perfect that you have to be devastated and heartbroken if (s)he doesn't want to go to the prom with you. Remember we all have faults, and so do they. So, if things don't work out exactly the way you want, don't beat yourself up. Instead, just accept it and move past the situation.

4. Accept a no for what it is. Don't beg or plead. If the guy or girl doesn't want to go to the prom with you or has someone else slotted to go with, (s)he won't have a good time with you anyway. So, find someone who really wants to go with you and then you will be guaranteed to have a good time. Not only that, pleading and begging is for the weak-hearted and the girl or boy who lacks self-confidence. So, don't show that side of yourself to anyone.

5. If no one has asked you to the prom and the magical day is approaching but you don't have a date, you may consider asking your cousin or brother or sister. That way, you will have a date to the prom no matter what and you don't have to be heartbroken if that perfect gal or guy doesn't ask you out.

By following these tips, you could keep your self-confidence and keep your cool as well. Remember prom day is a one of a kind day. You will remember it for the rest of your life. Try and have something really good to remember about it. Above all, relax and have a good and safe time.
